British Columbia Online Casino Choices: PlayNow Compared with Other Access Options
In British Columbia, the Government of BC says PlayNow.com is the only legal online gambling site, and it is run by the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) for players located in BC. That also answers the currency question: PlayNow works in Canadian dollars, BCLC charges no deposit fees, and every withdrawal goes to your bank account by electronic funds transfer. The fees and delays that can still surprise you come from your bank or card issuer, a 72-hour hold on a first Interac deposit, and the rule that withdrawals should be winnings only. We read PlayNow’s help, contact and payment pages and the province’s gambling page on October 19, 2026.
What are the legal options for online casino play in BC?
The province’s own statement is short: gambling is legal in BC only when it is run by the provincial government, BCLC manages all commercial gambling including online, you must be 19 or older to gamble in BC including online, and PlayNow.com is the only legal online gambling site in BC. PlayNow describes itself as the official gaming site for BC residents, available only to players located in BC.
Regulation sits with the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO), which replaced the former Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch under the modernized Gaming Control Act in force April 13, 2026.

What other access options are there?
Other provinces’ sites require you to be there. Ontario’s regulated sites require players to be physically located in Ontario, and Alberta’s registered sites require players to be physically in Alberta. Having an account with one of them does not let you play from BC.
PlayNow in Manitoba and Saskatchewan is a separate service. The same BCLC platform runs PlayNow for Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries and for SaskGaming, but each is for residents of that province.
Within PlayNow, you choose the payment route. For a BC player who wants to keep everything in CAD, that choice matters more than any comparison between sites.
How do deposits work, and where can fees appear?
PlayNow’s help page lists these deposit methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Interac e-Transfer, PayPal, Online Bill Payment and Web Cash. The minimum deposit is C$5.
- BCLC fees. BCLC does not charge deposit fees. PlayNow notes that some card issuers and banks may.
- Interac e-Transfer. A first Interac e-Transfer may be held for up to 72 hours by a bank security check. Interac says each financial institution sets its own e-Transfer limits, and once a transfer has been accepted it cannot be reversed; cancelling one before it is accepted is done in online banking and may carry a bank fee.
- Currency. PlayNow is a BCLC site with amounts in Canadian dollars, and its poker deposits, limits and chips are in CAD, so a CAD bank account or card avoids conversion on PlayNow’s side.
If you want no surprises, ask your bank two questions before the first deposit: what is my Interac e-Transfer limit, and does my card issuer charge a fee on gaming deposits.
How do withdrawals work?
All PlayNow withdrawals go to your bank account by electronic funds transfer, unless the amount is C$25,000,000 or more. BCLC asks you to allow up to three business days to process a withdrawal, after which it typically takes about one business day to reach your account.
In calendar terms, a withdrawal requested on a Monday can take until Thursday to be processed and arrive in your account around Friday. A request made on a Thursday runs into the weekend, because both stages are counted in business days, so it may not arrive until the middle of the following week.
Two rules are easy to miss:
- Winnings only. Withdrawals should consist only of winnings. Unused deposits can be refunded to the original payment method instead.
- Balance cap. An account balance above C$250,000 must be reduced within 72 hours.
Interac appears on PlayNow as a deposit method only; the payout route is always the bank transfer. Our province-first comparison shows how this compares with operators in other provinces that pay back to Interac.
What does PlayNow offer at the live tables?
PlayNow’s live casino lobby lists Blackjack, VIP Blackjack, Canucks Blackjack, Infinite Blackjack, Speed Blackjack and Live Craps, alongside live roulette and baccarat. Its published rules documents give a single-zero wheel on its live roulette tables, La Partage on Live French Roulette, and 3:2 blackjack with the dealer standing on soft 17. Table limits are mostly shown in the game after login. For a first look at how these games work, see which casino games suit beginners.
Where can you get help?
PlayNow offers live chat, and phone support or a GameSense Advisor every day from 7 am to midnight Pacific time at 1-877-706-6789, with poker support around the clock. Its self-exclusion program is Game Break, and a GameSense advisor line is available through customer support at 1-866-815-0222. Gambling Support BC runs a free 24/7 helpline for BC residents at 1-888-795-6111.
What we could not confirm
- Game Break durations: they are not shown in the public page.
- PlayNow’s minimum withdrawal amount.
- Live table limits at most PlayNow tables: shown in the game after login.
Check before your first deposit
Log in, open the cashier and confirm the account currency and your registered bank account for EFT withdrawals. Ask your bank about its Interac e-Transfer limit and any card fees. Make the first deposit a few days before you plan to play if you use Interac, in case of the 72-hour hold. Keep deposits and winnings apart in your own notes, since PlayNow pays withdrawals from winnings and refunds unused deposits separately.
