Choosing a Casino by Game Preference

Choose the game first and the casino second. The game sets the price of play: Loto-Québec’s published rules give 98.94% for baccarat, 97.30% for standard single-zero roulette and up to 99.29% for blackjack played perfectly, while a slot’s return depends on the version the casino runs. The casino then decides if you can find that game, at what limits, and if its rules can be read before you bet. In the Ontario lobbies we checked on October 19 and 20, 2026, the differences were large: BetRivers’ public live lobby had categories for blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps and game shows, while Betty’s public lobby showed live game shows but no live blackjack or roulette tables.

What this section compares, and why

Players usually know what they like to play before they know where to play it. This section starts from the game: what it asks of you, what it returns according to published rules, and how fast it plays. Then it looks at which casinos carry it, using the public lobbies and rules documents we could read without an account.

A game’s name is a weak guide. Two tables called blackjack can pay differently and use different rules, and the same slot can run at a different return at another casino. So the pages in this section quote the rules document or game page, not the name.

What do the main games return?

  • Baccarat. One decision per round, on Player, Banker or Tie. Loto-Québec’s Speed Baccarat pays Player 1:1, Banker 0.95:1 after a 5% commission and Tie 8:1, with a published return of 98.94%.
  • Roulette. You only choose where to place chips. On a single-zero wheel every standard bet returns 97.30% on average; the payouts run from 35:1 on a single number to 1:1 on red or black.
  • Blackjack. The highest published return, 99.29% under Loto-Québec’s standard rules, but only if you make the right decision on every hand.
  • Slots. No decisions at all, but the return varies by game and by casino: from under 90% to almost 97% on the slot pages we read in Ontario.

Which casinos carry which games?

The public lobbies we read in Ontario show how much the mix varies:

  • BetRivers (Ontario) lists live categories for Blackjack, Game Shows, Craps, Baccarat, Roulette, Private and Poker, and 24 roulette tables with minimum bets from C$0.10 to C$1.
  • PlayOJO (Ontario) lists live roulette, live blackjack including its own Studio21 tables, live baccarat and craps by Evolution, with a note that the logged-out page is illustrative.
  • 888casino (Ontario) shows table minimums without login, for example C$0.10 at Gates of Olympus Roulette and C$2 at Vegas All Bets Blackjack Live and Speed Baccarat 1.
  • Betty (Ontario) states 4,500+ slot games and shows live game shows such as Crazy Time and Monopoly Live; we did not see live blackjack or roulette tables in its public lobby.
  • FanDuel Casino (Ontario) has lobby categories for slots, live casino, blackjack, roulette, baccarat, table games and jackpots.

For slot players, the same popular titles turn up across Ontario: in a check of nine Pragmatic Play slots at OLG.ca, bet365, BetRivers and Betty, 35 of 36 game and casino pairs returned a match.

How does pace change the cost?

The return tells you the cost per bet; pace tells you how many bets you make. In Ontario the AGCO’s standards slow slots down: no auto-play, no playing several slots at once, at least 2.5 seconds between game starts, and no turbo or quick spin. Live tables run at the dealer’s pace with a betting window each round. A game that returns more but plays faster can still cost more per hour, so look at both.

The guide in this section

Which online casino games suit beginners? compares baccarat, roulette, blackjack, craps and slots side by side by rules, decisions, published return and pace, and explains why baccarat and roulette are the easiest table games to learn and why blackjack rewards learning first.

For the casinos themselves, our Ontario online casino comparison sets 14 sites side by side on live lobbies, withdrawals and support.

How we checked

We read Loto-Québec’s and PlayNow’s rules documents on October 19, 2026, and the public lobbies of BetRivers, PlayOJO, 888casino, Betty and FanDuel from Ontario on October 19 and 20, without logging in. Returns quoted are the figures in the rules documents and game pages. Anything shown only after login is not counted.

What we could not confirm

  • Table rules and limits at live tables that open only after login.
  • Whether every game in a logged-out lobby is available after login: PlayOJO says some may not be.

Find your game before you sign up

Search the casino’s public lobby for the exact game you want to play, open its rules or game page, and note three things: the return or payouts, the limits and any rule that changes the price. If you cannot find the rules without an account, that is worth knowing before you open one.
